Autumn 1

We have an exciting first term ahead of us in Peregrine Class. Our first English book, as part of ‘Pathways to Write’ will be ‘Star of Fear, Star of Hope’ by Jo Hoestlandt. The book is set in occupied France during World War II and tells a powerful story of friendship, fear and hope.

In Maths, we use the Power Maths scheme, which focuses on problem solving and key areas of learning from the National Curriculum. It challenges our mathematical thinking and displays it in real life situations. We also use TT Rockstars to practise our timetables and take on different challenges. The unit for this term is place value within 10,000,000.

As historians we will be learning about the impact of World War II on British people. We will identify the causes of World War II and the different phases in the Battle of Britain. In geography lessons, we will learn how land use in the local area and around the country impacted decisions and outcomes during WW2. Our theme extends into computing and science in which we will explore computers by uncovering the heroes of Bletchley Park and electrical components through the lens of WW2 equipment such as radios and torches.
