Welcome To Owl Class
Twittwoo! We’re Owl Class. We’re a really creative and enthusiastic bunch of friends who are exploring all the skills needed to become life-long learners.
Together, we are aiming to REACH our potential by becoming Resilient, Engaged, Ambitious, Creative and Healthy. Every one of us is unique and we all have different ideas, strengths and personalities, but we are all capable of great things and these are the learning powers that will help us achieve them.
Meet the Team
I’m Miss Edwards, EYFS Lead. I’ve been teaching for 24 years now. Beginning in KS1, I then moved to Year 6, where I stayed for 14 years. 6 years ago, I made the leap to EYFS, with Mrs Graham. As a creative person who looks for the fun in learning, I really enjoy EYFS and the magic the children bring to it. I have a passion for stories and my love of nature means I really enjoy taking our learning outside. Who doesn’t love story time in the woods?
I’m Mrs Graham, EYFS TA. I’ve been working with children for longer than I can remember, first as a childminder and then as a classroom TA. I started as a Year 6 TA supporting maths, but made the move to EYFS with Miss Edwards and enjoy the spontaneity of early years – every day is different. I am the Forest School Lead and really value outdoor learning and experiences this gives children.
A Day in the Life
The EYFS class is a busy one. When the children come home and you ask them what they’ve done today, and their response is ‘play’, it’s true, but there is structure and context behind that play which develops into exploration and investigation. To keep you in the loop, an overview of our learning adventure can be found to the right and a timetable of our week can be found in the document section. We’ll also keep you updated with posts to Facebook and Twitter.
Spring 1 Topic – Around the World in 8 Books
This term, the whole school are coming together in a joint topic called, ‘Around the World in 8 Books’. Phileas Fogg went around the world in 80 days and we’re going to do it in 8 books! Each class will explore a different continent before bringing together all of our learning in an around the world showcase that both the children and their families can adventure around.
Owl Class will begin by recognising that Autumn has now turned to winter and that brings harsh conditions for the characters in the stories in our books. We’ll first enjoy the heart-warming story of The Storm Whale at Winter, where we’ll meet a lonely boy whose fisherman father is trapped in icy seas until a young whale who they saved, returns the favour. Inspired by the Irish explorer, Earnest Shackleton, we’ll then set off on an exploration of Antarctica, in search of penguins. We’ll learn all about the harsh habitat of the coldest continent and find out more about the plants and animals that can survive there.
The ‘tabs’ below will take you to information about some of our learning – these are updated half-termly to keep you informed and involved in your child’s learning journey. Learning is most effective and valuable when home and school support your little ones together. You’ll find information on topics, phonics, reading, writing and maths, so that together, we can help your child achieve their potential.
Expectations
- Children will need a bottle of water and one healthy morning snack each day. Fruit is provided.
- ‘Strive for Five’ reading sessions a week to support reading. Books should be returned to class each Thursday and new books will come home on Fridays.
- Children should come in their P.E. kits on Tuesday and should bring their PE kit with them on Wednesday. Kit should be black bottoms and a white top, pumps or Velcro trainers.
- Please ensure that ALL personal belongings, clothing and footwear are labelled with names.
- We like to use the outdoors as much as possible, so please ensure children have warm coats and hats in the colder months and sun cream and sun hats on the sunny days.
