Hello, and welcome to Osprey class! My name is Mr Donnachie and I am the class teacher for Year 3. I am really looking forward to working with your child this year.  I aim to provide a fun and stimulating environment where all children feel confident enough to express their ideas, helping them increase their confidence to shine.

Summer 2

We are delighted to welcome Osprey Class back for the final half term of the year! It promises to be an exciting and active term, with a range of sporting events to look forward to, including golf, cricket, athletics, and of course, our much-anticipated Sports Day.

What We’re Learning This Term

Mathematics
This half term, we will be focusing on time, building a strong understanding of key concepts before moving on to angles and properties of shapes and statistics to finish the term.

English
In English, we will be exploring the wonderful Zeraffa Giraffa by Diane Hoffmeyer. This story will inspire us to think creatively as we develop our writing skills. We will be focusing on:

• Building an increasing range of sentence structures
• On non-narrative material, use simple organisational devices, including headings and sub-headings to aid presentation
• Use present and past tenses correctly and consistently, including the progressive and present perfect forms

Using these skills, we will plan and write a persuasive guide for visiting Zeraffa at the Jardin des Plantes in Paris

Science
Our Science topic is light and shadows. We will discover sources of light, reflections and where shadows come from. .

History
In History, we will be travelling back in time to Ancient Egypt. We will explore the key question:
What was important to the ancient Egyptians?

Moving onto learning all about the Romans and why they invaded and settled in Britain.

French
We will continue developing our French language skills, building confidence in speaking and understanding.

Music
In Music, we will be learning all about ballads, exploring storytelling through song.

Physical Education (PE)
This term in PE, we will be focusing on golf and athletics, helping to build agility, strength, and teamwork.

We are looking forward to a fantastic term full of learning, creativity, and fun!

Expectations

• PE this half term is on a Wednesday and Thursday. Please remember to wear full kits (white T-shirt and black shorts). Due to safety, it would be preferable to take out earrings for PE, however, if this is not possible, please tape over them. Children can come to school in their PE kits.
• Fruit is available for snack, or if they wish, the children may bring in their own healthy snack to eat at morning break (only one snack please). Please do not send any food which contains nuts. Toast can also be purchased from the school kitchen.
• Please ensure your child brings in a water bottle each day so that they can stay hydrated.
• Reading is a hugely important part of learning, and we encourage you to ‘Strive for five’ times a week. You can access the accelerated reader quizzes via the link on the right-hand side of this page.
• Homework: please practice reading, spelling and Times Tables Rock Stars each week!
