Our Year 6’s were visited by the local MP who talked about his role in service.

All pupils in KS2 vote for school council members/ head boy and girl, with those standing for election giving a presentation.

Our library includes titles to promote diversity. We ensure our pupils understand their role in promoting diversity, and ensure they understand that they are part of a multicultural society.

Pupils take part in key services throughout the year (Easter, Harvest, Christmas and Remembrance). Pupils take part in World Day of prayer and have completed community projects to support our church community e.g writing and leaving positive messages on church pews.

Pupils’ have taken part in HSBC’s ‘Grow a Fiver’, in which all profits go to charity. The school regularly takes part in social action projects raising money for local and national charities (Children In Need, Hospice of the Good Shepherd, Red Nose Day)

Christian values thread through our curriculum and are central to our collective worship.

Pupils work with the local community group ‘Positive Action in Little Sutton’ (PALS) on initiatives to improve the local area. In the past this has included bulb planting, scarecrow festival and litter picks.

Pupils complete financial fitness workshops delivered by HSBC.

Pupil roles give greater opportunities to develop the curriculum and learning experiences. Roles include: Road Safety Officers, School Council, Ethos Group. Sports Champions, Play Leaders, Head Boy and Head Girl and the facitilites team. Pupils are enthusiastic and confident to take on additional roles to work collaboratively with each other and staff.

Classrooms create a safe space for children to express their views

Each year groups celebrates a different faiths religious festival. Celebrating our diverse community.

History and Religious Studies topics in Key Stage 2 give context and a deeper understanding about why these values are precious and far from universal across the world.

REACH promotes being responsible for our own outcomes; working hard; being aspirational

We have a dedicated parliament week, with guest speakers such as our local MP. Pupils in KS2 create their own election campaign, presenting why they should be on the school leadership council or become Head Boy/Girl.

Encouraging collaboration and participation, pupils are encouraged to work together and learn with and from each other.

We deliver specialist workshops to inspire our pupils in school and beyond, providing broad and varied topics such as science, dance, drama, sport, personal finance.

Math competition with other local schools, encouraging pupils to become more literate with their numeracy skills.

All students in Year 5 receive Brass instrument lessons as part of their school timetable.

All of Year 6 have the opportunity to attend an Outdoor Residential trip.

Through our Buddy System, children support one another, becoming role models for their peers.

We deliver a number of different style performances to our parents and wider community. In the past these have been learning showcases, choir performances with other schools and religious festivals.

We provide unique experiences for our children to inspire them to try new things. Children in Year 6 attend an outward bound residential and we have guest speakers delivering inspirational workshops on topics such as science, drama and dance.

We recognise and celebrate our children’s achievements beyond school.

REACH language used throughout the school day, promoting expectations in learning.

Visitors to school giving inspirational motivational talks to our children. We have had a World Cup Referee, specialist sports coaches, doctors, police officers. We also have assemblies led by Father Mark and other members of our local Christian community.

Children are taught from reception to Year 6 routines – encouraging and teaching responsibility. In reception children are encouraged to get themselves changed for PE lessons.

Children have access to resources to promote independence.

There are strong, shared Christian values in the school and these support behaviour and personal development.  A Christian value is focussed on each term and these support behaviour and attitudes for learning in line with the REACH (resilience, engagement, ambition, creative and healthy) vision. Pupils lead worship and benefit from a wide range of visitors including the local vicar and community worker.
